sooo overdue birthday post...

... I am actually quite embarrassed that this post is weeks (well, a whole stinkin month) past when I planned to post it. What can I say, I just have been busy with other things. But, My Mother-in-law had a birthday and I did not come up with any clever rhymes but I love this lady to pieces and I wanted to acknowledge her before her next b-day came around. I thought I would ask the President of her fan club, Samuel Taylor some questions (the VP had some language barriers, but she did manage to say "mee-maw, mee-maw" repeatedly)

ME: "Do you know Grandmas full name?
Pres: "ummm... Barbie June?"
ME: "Whats her Favorite thing to eat?"
Pres: "Oranges"
ME: "Whats her Favorite thing to do?"
Pres: "Hang out with me, Sammy"
ME: "What's your favorite thing she does for you?"
Pres: "She makes me PB sandwiches at night so I can eat them right when I wake up in the morning. She puts PB on one half and Marshmallow on the other half and always cuts the crust off"
ME: What is Grandma really good at?
Pres: Making PB sandwiches for me
ME: "what makes her happy?"
Pres: "watching a movie with me, that fairytale love story one (thumbelina)  'cause it's a chick flick
ME"What makes her sad?"
Pres: "I'm not sure, I've never seen her be sad"
ME: "Whats her favorite season, and why?"
Pres: "Summer, because then she can grow a bunch of flowers."
ME: "how long have you known her?"
Pres: "Forever... since I been in Heaven"
ME: "Whats her Favorite book?"
Pres: "I'm not sure, but she likes to help me read"
ME: "how old is she?"
Pres: "Umm... I'm not sure, 25?"
ME: "what is her favorite color?"
Pres: "Orange, I know 'cause thats her favorite color to wear"
ME: "what's Grandmas job?"
Pres: "the newsletter" (ward)
ME: "What's her favorite TV show?"
Pres: "American Idol and See who can dance and stuff"

There is Grandma Barbie in the eyes of a 5 year old that has known her since heaven, here are his final words

"Happy Birsday Grandma. Thanks for making me PB sandwiches. I love you so much. You're really nice to get me milk when I'm thirsty. You are pretty and smart."

Thanks Barbie for being one of the most wonderful people I know. We may tease you about your post-it note covered mirror and your over-concern in making sure EVERYONES bladders are good and empty before a car ride. But I hope you know how much we appreciate and care about you! Thanks for making our lives richer and easier. And for your growing tolerance of the word CRAP. You're the best!

A mothers wish realized

A father dreams of some day playing catch with his son... I had dreams of having a daughter.....who would let me do her hair! I have had so much fun! It's ridiculously long for a not even two year old. It's recently gotten long enough for BRAIDS! I yuv braids. She is actually pretty good to allow me to yank and pull and style her hair when I want. As long as there is a good cartoon on and she gets to suck on the end of the spray bottle.
And... what kind of a blogging mom would I be if I didn't add a little update on the amazing-genius-like abilities of my kid? Sophie's stuborness has reached new heights and she has recently insisted on dressing herself. Her coordination has not quite caught up to her desire for independance. It drives me NUTS. She can do pants ok, even if they are often on inside out and backward. Though she is stubborn and down right bratty at times, she does say "tain-too" at the appropriate mments, so even though she may scream "NO!!" and fall to peices if she can't have infinite amounts of fruit snacks, at least she has manners right?
This girl can spot pink from a mile away and prefers anything in that shade if she can have it. Did I do that to her? she does have a lot of pink clothes and her room is painted pink, so maybe I am responsible for pink-washing her little girlie brain. She has an obsession with Grandma or "mee-maw" (she came up with that one on her own) and is turning into a daddy's girl. Cute? Yes.....Sad? Definitely. She does like her mama too I guess. One very excellent thing about it is when I say, "do you want mommy to change your diaper... or Daddy?" She, with extreme cuteness exclaims, "DADDY!" Who can resist that? I don't use that trick all time though, I save it for very special, stinky occasions. I really can't believe she is going to be 2 in May.

the power of advertising

For anyone that reads my blog or knows my Sam, knows he is a big giant sponge. Even with a DVR and skipping most commercials, he still busts out things he learns from advertisers. When we were at Kmart the other day he, very matter-of-factly informed me that "There is smart, and then there's Kmart smart." Good to know Sambino. Another time he goes into great detail about some pillow/blanket/stuffed animal thingy he wanted to add to his list of must have toys. Yes, he did like the look of them but I think the deciding factor for him was the ad line... "Mom, the lady on TV said that as soon as you buy it (pillow/blanket/animal-a-jig) Your child will fall in love with it and it will be their favorite toy!"     -Well, in that case!-   Then on Wednesday we were playing outside and Sam noticed a strange (to him) car parked in front of our house. He said, "What's that American Idol car doing there?" You may be thinking, as I was, "what the heck is an american Idol car?" I asked Sam what he meant and he said, "You know, that car with the American Idol sign on it" and he pointed to the Ford logo on the front. Well, any fan of AI has been force fed Ford propaganda, so much that my 5 year old, that I think is hardly half watching, made the connection. On further investigation, I realized how similar the two logos are...
